Adjustment of Status vs. Change of Status
Adjustment of status is the process through which a person in the U.S. changes their nonimmigrant status to that of a lawful permanent resident. Often, this is termed "getting a Green Card." To do so, you would need to change your visa status from that of a visitor to a student (F-1).
